Pottery was one of the crafts produced in the early 20th century during the Arts and Crafts movement. Chauncey Thomas (1877-1950) worked in Deerfield, Massachusetts, for a few brief years between 1909 to 1911 selling his work as a member of the Deerfield Industries. In 1916, Thomas opened a pottery in Berkeley, CA, which was eventually known as California Faience. This slab-construction vase is admirable for its simple and pleasing form.
