This carving fork was part of a wedding present to Charlotte Wardner Lamson when she married Charles Hyde Warren in 1905. She was the grand-daughter of Ebenezer Lamson, one of the original partners of the Lamson & Goodnow Company of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. Nut picks were one of a number of highly specialized tools for eating developed in the Victorian era. This pick allowed the genteel extraction of the meat from shelled nuts like walnuts or pecans. In that era, it was essential that a diner be refined. Nut picks helped tidy the messy business of nut eating.
