The rosewood chair with carved crest and upholstered seat is one of a set of four. Chairs like these, with their curved profiles, were placed in the fancy parlors around the time of the Civil War. They are often referred to as 'balloon-back' chairs or simply as "Victorian." Queen Victoria reigned in England from 1837 to 1901 and the styles popular during that time are often referred to as Victorian.
