This photograph shows four Tuscarora displaying their beadwork items on a squared log and in baskets on planks. The women are wearing kerchiefs and shawls. They are selling their wares near Niagara Falls, New York, which was a popular place for tourists in the 19th century. Members of the Tuscarora nation made many popular items for sale to tourists including beadwork bags, moccasins, cases and pin cushions. This photograph is called a "stereograph" or "stereopticon" because it was made to be viewed in a stereoscope which allowed the viewer to see the image in three dimensions. Looking at images in stereoscopes was a popular Victorian parlor activity in the late 19th century.
