Charles Arms (1831-1888) was president of the Arms Manufacturing Company. The company made leather goods, especially pocket-books. The company began in 1845 in Deerfield, Massachusetts, when Charles' father, Dennis, and his brothers began making them by hand from hides he himself tanned. The primary market for his goods was New York City. The transportation network was developed enough that even distant villages like Deerfield could sell its goods there. The Arms company continued well into the 20th century.
