Solomon Williams (1764-1836) farmed for many years on the land he inherited from his father, Dr. Thomas Williams, in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Mr. Williams was active in town affairs and served as a selectman. As a prominent man in town, his testimony in an affidavit as to the quality of John Wilson's plough carried weight. John Wilson (1782-1869) was a devoted agriculturist, an inventor and manufacturer of agricultural implements as well as a book publisher. His plough is the subject of this affidavit. Solomon Williams acknowledges he has used the plough for the last three seasons and finds it superior to any he has used in nearly 50 years of farming.
