This article from the Greenfield, Massachusetts, "Gazette and Courier" tallies the votes by state for the 1896 Presidential election as reported by Harper's Weekly. The Presidential election of 1896 resulted in a large majority of Electoral College votes for William McKinley over William Jennings Bryan 271 to 176. The popular vote was not as overwhelmingly pro McKinley. He received 7,102,246 to Bryan's 6,492,559. This article tallies the electoral votes by state according to "Harper's Weekly" and incorrectly reports that McKinley had 282 to Bryan's 165.
