This is a representation of a notice from Columbia, South Carolina, calling for a meeting of the Ku-Klux-Klan. The Klan was founded in 1866 by veterans of the Confederate Army. The Klan opposed the policies of Reconstruction (1865-1877) and was effective in keeping freedmen from voting which enabled them to gain political control in many states.
