This 1910 advertisement from the Gazette & Courier newspaper in Greenfield, Massachusetts, boasts the best, purist, and most economical flavoring extracts from the Toiletine Company in Greenfield and Montague, Massachusetts. The multi-purpose extracts could be used for "coughs, colds, sore throats, cuts, burns and bruises." The ad assures the buyer that they can have their money back if they are not satisfied.
<BR>First established in Hoosick Falls, New York, the company manufactured a popular medicated lotion named "Toiletine," and moved to Montague in 1895, where it began manufacturing a line of other products including shampoos, lotions, and flavoring extracts like vanilla and lemon. In 1910, the company was purchased by William Ulrich who moved it to Greenfield, Massachusetts. The company disappeared in the early 1970's, probably due to the owner's failure to advertise in an attempt to keep the company small.
