This mid- to late-summer bouquet was painted by Elizabeth Brooks Fuller (1893-1979) in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Although Fuller spent most of her summers after the 1930s in Oracle, Arizona, and her winters in Deerfield, during World War II that kind of travel was not possible. She spent the war years at The Bars, the family's farm in Deerfield. Fuller's main work involved portraits and landscapes, but she regularly returned to floral painting. Her sister, Katherine Fuller Arms, painted the tray the vase is resting on.
