The creator of this bowl, Madeline Yale Wynne (1847-1918), was a nationally recognized artist who spent many years summering in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Her specialties included raffia basketmaking and work in metal. This copper bowl with a tin overlay, ornamented with daffodils, shows obvious and intentional evidence of hand-applied tools, making a statement for objects that were hand-made as opposed to machine-made. This reverence for individually handcrafted objects was the hallmark of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century.
