Constructed of red oak, yellow pine, and white pine boards decorated with a shadow molding plane, this chest was intended for storage of textiles. Originally fitted with two drawers, the drawers have been removed to create more space accessible from the hinged lid. The chest came to Deerfield in 1774 with Justin Hitchcock, a hatter, and was given to the museum by his grandson
