The town was scheduled to meet on October 10, 1783 and a moderator was chosen. The meeting was adjourned and called to meet five days later in the same place, the Deerfield School House. (Perhaps not enough voters were present to conduct the business at hand.) The purpose was to choose a delegate to attend a convention at the house of Seth Murray in Hatfield on the 25th of October. At the delayed meeting on the 15th two men were voted: Mr. Samuel Field (1743-1800) and Mr. Simeon Harvey (b.1743) and the town voted, also, money to pay the costs of "the delegate who shall attend."
