Shelburne Falls evolved due to the food and power available from the Deerfield River and the falls. By 1905 when this image was taken, Shelburne Falls was a large, thriving community, with a railroad station, trolley, and several large-scale industries. Its population included immigrants from Germany, Ireland, and Poland.
