In this promissory note, Hezekiah Newcomb agrees to pay his debt to the estate of Remembrance Sheldon in grain, neet cattle or silver money. In the years following the American Revolution, hard currency was scarce and many debts were paid with goods instead. Grain and neet cattle were the most common forms of payment.
