label levels:

Eastern European immigrants introduced willow basket making to Deerfield, Massachusetts, artisans at the turn of the 20th century. The latter formed the Deerfield Basket Makers. This group oversaw the workmanship and form of the baskets, and exhibited and sold their work under the auspices of the Deerfield Industries. The willow was gathered from nearby wetlands and handcrafted into utilitarian workbaskets.
