label levels:

This table could accommodate larger numbers of people around it by swinging out elaborately turned "gate legs" to hold up two hinged drop leaves. To save space, the owner could lower the leaves when not in use. Making a table like this required the tools and skills of at least two craftspeople: a turner to "turn" the legs on a lathe, and a joiner to make the remainder of the pieces and "join" all of them together.
