In 1912, the residents of Bernardston, Massachusetts, celebrated the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the town's founding with a parade. Celebrations like this reminded long-time residents of the town's history, while educating newcomers and children about the dress, customs, and hardships of the town's earlier inhabitants. The children on this horse-drawn float are dressed in a hodge-podge of vintage clothing intended to evoke their vision of the 'olden times.'
