George Fuller (1822-1884) had attained a national reputation as a painter by the time this photograph was taken by Boston, Massachusetts, photographers, Allen and Rowell. The artist, Fuller, was sixty-one years old in this photograph taken in a studio in Boston. In a three-piece suit and with a full white beard he sits facing the camera head-on. Fuller was a farmer in Deerfield, Massachusetts, who had a lifelong passion for painting. By 1876 he had mounted an exhibition of his work in Boston and in 1880 was elected a member of the Society of American Artists. At the time of his death in 1884, he was at the height of his career as an artist.
