G.C. Cox, a professional photographer, took this photograph of Charlotte Alice Baker (1833-1909). An oil painting of Miss Baker with the same pose was done about 1900, but this photograph was both quicker and less expensive. Her hair is drawn back tightly and she is dressed in dark clothing with a high neck and long sleeves, which are proper for her age and the times.
