To the SELECT-MEN, or ASSESSORS of the Town of Buckland ~~ in the
County
of HAMPSHIRE, Greeting,
WHEREAS the General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, on the 28th
Day of January Anno Domini, 1784
Resolved agreed and determined that the Sum of Three Hundred
and fifty pounds lawful Money
be raised on the several Towns, Districts, or Places, within the said County,
according to the Directions of the Law, for defraying the usual necessary Charges
of the County; and directed that the Clerk of the Peace should forthwith send
out Warrants for assessing the several Towns, districts and Places Proportion
thereof, as the Law directs, and for paying in the same:
THESE are, therefore, in the NAME of the COMMONWEALTH of MASSACHUSETTS, to
Will and Require you to assess the Sum of One pound ten shillings and Nine
pence upon the Inhabitants of the Town of Buckland each
his due and equal Proportion thereof, as near as may be, according to the Rule
for defraying the Charges of the Commonwealth; being the said Towns
Proportion for the County Tax and Rate abovementioned; and you are to make a
true and perfect List or Lists of the Names of the Persons on whom you assess
the aforesaid Sum, which Lists or Lists, so perfected, and signed by yourselves,
or the major Part of you, you are to commit to the Collector, Constable or Constables
of your Town -- requiring them respectively to levy and collect the
said Sum of £ 1~10~9~ on the Inhabitants thereof, and to pay
in the same unto William Pynchon Esq; County Treasurer, his Successor, or Order,
at or before the thirty first Day of March -- next ensuing.
Hereof fail not of making Return of the Names of the Person of Persons to whom
you commit the aforesaid List or Lists to the said Treasurer, and of the Sum
to each of them respectively committed to collect, as soon as may be after you
have committed the same.
