EMIGRATION FROM ENGLAND-
From 1837 to 1846, inclusive, the following number of emigrants, acting under
the advice and superintendence of the 'Land and Emigration Board,' but with
their own means, have left England- to America, 740,340; to Australia, 100,754;
and to other places, 15,305- making a total of 866,392 persons. It would seem
from the English and Irish papers that emigration to this country during the
present spring and ensuing summer, will be on an unusually large scale. From
200,000 to 300,000 are expected to emigrate from Ireland alone. |
