This photograph, taken in Greenfield, Massachusetts, of two female workers for the Red Cross, shows the role some American women took during World War I. Volunteers and employees of the Red Cross supplied sewn and knitted clothing, rolled bandages for the wounded, and raised money for medical supplies with moveable "WAR FUND" carts like the one shown in the photograph.
