The word "sward" in the title of this photograph refers to the grassy area being turned up by the plow. The plow is guided by one man and is hitched to 2 horses. It is a hard job (note the man bent over in his "back-breaking" work) and shows the kind of hand work that was needed before the invention of the tractor. The photograph was probably taken between 1914 and 1920.
