Stepping out of his 18th century character, this 'Indian' photographs a fellow 'Indian' in a child-like pose next to a 'Puritan' woman. The Allen sisters [Frances and Mary Allen (1858-1941)] took this scene with their famed cameras. This scene is typical of the Old Deerfield Pageants where community members of English background pretended to be Puritans and their historic enemies, the Indians. The Old Deerfield pageants were an early 20th-century try by a town to show a popular version of the past, however they often included stereotypes.
