When the Memorial Hall Museum opened in 1880, it tried out an exciting new idea in displaying artifacts in period rooms. The original plan for Memorial Hall called for an "Old Bedroom." The founders wished to point out to visitors the differences between the time before factories and the modern age. included hand-made objects of different periods, such as nineteenth-century braided rugs and ceramics, alongside early eighteenth-century artifacts.
