In this photograph by the Allen sisters of Deerfield, Masachusetts, the children are using a clay pipe to blow soap bubbles. They probably borrowed the pipe from a tobacco smoking adult in the household. Their wool clothing informs us that it is probably a cold winter's day and they are amusing themselves indoors.
