People from all denominations came to Lake Pleasant in Montague, Massachusetts, to relieve the stress of living in an increasingly industrialized world. There they could witness seers, clairvoyants, trance mediums, psychics and healers who themselves had been lured to the village by the sparkling glacial waters of Lake Pleasant. Not only was the lake beautiful and serene, but it was thought to have curative properties. Rowboats and a small steamer were available to charter for fishing or for pleasure excursions on the lake.
