label levels:

A neck yoke made carrying buckets easier by balancing the load and spreading the weight along the shoulders of the user. With no indoor plumbing, every drop of water a family used for drinking, cleaning and cooking had to be carried in from outside. Then the dirty water had to be taken back outside. A yoke was also used for carrying in milk after milking or for collecting sap for maple sugaring.
