Five deeds were supposedly drawn up by the English and witnessed by members of the Pocumtuck nation to transfer 8000 acres of land from Native American ownership to the people of Dedham, Massachusetts. This paper is dated February 24, 1667. The land is sold, but rights are saved by the Pocumtucks to fish in the rivers, hunt deer and other wild animals, and to gather nuts and berries.
