John Hawks (1643-c1721) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, owed John Pynchon of Springfield, Massachusetts, 12 pounds. In this promissory note it states that if Hawks paid before March 26, 1700, he only had to pay 6 pounds. Hawks paid 6 lbs. on May 17, 1714, after Pynchon's death. Even though he should have paid 12 pounds because he was paying up well after the March date, the promissory note says that the "full Sum of Six pounds" was accepted.
