At a Legal Town Meeting of the
Inhabitants of the Town of Deerfield
They Voted as follows
1 Capt Thos Wells was chosen Moderator
2 Capt Thos Well Mr John Catlin Lut Timothy
Childs Thos Wells 2nd Mr Eber Shelden was
Chosen a Committey to finish the Meeting House
upon the charge of the Town the year Insuing
which will be Anno qus Domini 1730
3 They voted allso that all wood and Timber that is
fallen down as shall be unhewd or not split up
or not cut for fires for the space of one Month
shall be forfeit to any man that shall take it
this vote to stand in force for one whole year
4 They voted To the Reverend Mr John Williams Decease
his Heirs Twenty Five Pounds for his servise
from the first of March Anno qus Domini 1728/9
to the Twelveth of June following qus

After choosing a Moderator (Capt. Thomas Wells) and a committee to finish the meeting house, the other business before the meeting had to do with the disposal of all wood and timber fallen down around the town. They decreed that if all was not hewed or cut for firewood within one month, that it could be the property of anyone who would take it for a period of twelve months. The final item of business was to pay the minister's salary from March 1 until the day of his death on June 12, 1729. The Reverend Williams had begun preaching in Deerfield in June 1686.
