Gilbert Hoyt, a carpenter of Deerfield, Massachusetts, set down on paper the details about planned buildings on the property of Consider Dickinson, a farmer. Mr. Hoyt agreed to have the work done "to the turn of the key" by June 1, 1816, or he would pay $20. He would build an addition to a barn, add a stable, and move a cow house - all for the sum of $162, which included all the materials. Consider Dickinson was a successful farmer, as were many homeowners in the town of Deerfield, and needed to expand his outbuildings on his property in the middle of town.
