In this two-paragraph appeal, Salah Barnard, age 39, now a private citizen in Deerfield, Massachusetts, appeals to the authorities to reimburse him for expenses he incurred while serving in the militia. He asks for sixty pounds to defray the costs of clothing and camp furniture at Fort William Henry. And, recounting his illness in 1758, he asks for money to cover the costs of medical care and travel home from the Fort. The provincial government issued ammunition, but it did not provide either arms, travel expenses, or uniforms.
