I take the liberty to make
some enquiries of you relative to the duty
pay & emoluments of a Surgeons Mate in
U.S. Navy.. what wages per month, what
value of rations.-what allowance for
waiter-how clothed-whether by Govt
or themselves-how supplied with
instruments and medicine-when stationed
at the Navy Yard in Town or City what
time may be devoted to private practice?

What the income of the Station you
left at Portsmouth? and is the present
incumbant desirous to retain it? how
much leisure to do business in Town
& how much is it worth? were you
attached to the Land or Navy service.
What does a Surgeons pay & perquisites
amount too pr annum?

By answering as soon as may
possibly be convenient the forgoing
enquiries you will much oblige
