Trade embargoes and then war in 1812 halted commerce between the United States and Great Britain. By 1815, British merchants were eager to reopen American markets and regain some of their best customers. A British pottery produced this transfer printed creamware pitcher celebrating American naval victories over Britain in the War of 1812. It depicts American heroes Captain Isaac Hull and Captain Jacob Jones.
