To members of the Pocumtuck Basket Makers of Deerfield, Massachusetts, the weaving technique of each basket was an important part of the design. In this case, the basket maker used an open squaw weave to create a star or flower in the center of her creation. The flowers around the bowl were made by weaving in dyed pieces of raffia.
