Dr. William Stoddard Williams (1762-1829), a doctor from Deerfield, Massachusetts, was a customer of Northampton doctor and druggist, Ebenezer Hunt. The list of supplies that he "Bot" includes, ipecac, cinnamon, and 72 corks for small medicine bottles. Many of the drugs used in the 18th century are unfamiliar to us today. The prices are named in pounds, shillings, and pence, even though the country was no longer under the rule of Great Britain. The new money system of dollars and cents was not in use everywhere right after the Revolution.
