19th Century geography books such as this one covered many topics including Religion. Much of the information on world religions and other people in these books is wrong or full of stereotypes, as shown in the discussion and picture of "Pagans" on page 51 (to see, click on the "Select a page" menu above) or of the "Polynesians" on page 151. Disasters like fires, earthquakes and avalanches were also of great interest (see page 120 for an example.). It was not odd for students, who owned their own books, to write their names in them in ink, as Eunice Nims did in this geography book (see "Front matter" on the menu above).
