When Rowland Stebbins was about 35 years old, an unknown artist painted this picture of him. He is dressed in a vest, white shirt, and black coat and stock. Born deaf in 1794, Rowland and his sister Polly were sent to The Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1817 to be educated.
