Religious toys were common at the turn of the century and many were made in factories, probably meant to help children behave in a more religious manner. This child-size version of Noah's Ark is complete with pairs of animals. The play involved marching the bears, kangaroos, and the rest into the ark by the ramp placed at the back of the ark. Hand-made about 1900, perhaps by some lucky child's father, the toy was donated to Memorial Hall. Toys made in this period are usually well used and are missing some pieces after one 100 years. This example is a charming reminder of the playthings of an earlier time.
