Family Bibles served more than one purpose. In addition to providing religious inspiration and comfort, family records were often entered onto pages specially provided for such information. David Hoyt (1722-1814) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, recorded the births and deaths of his wife and their twelve children on a page in this book. The Bible descended to his great-great grandson, Horatio, born 1868.
