Branded 3 times under the seat by Ebenezer Tracy of Lisbon, Connecticut, a chair maker working from 1774 to 1803, this chair was once painted green. Because of the different woods used in making them - this chair is made of hickory, maple, oak, and chestnut - nearly all Windsor chairs were supposed to be painted. The woods were chosen for the different strength or bendable needs of various parts of the chair. This chair served as a desk with its writing surface and storage drawers that lock.
