Summary and Objective
Students will understand that farming practices and the tools that were used were similar during the early years of our country and during the civilization of Ancient Egypt. Students will also understand how farming near major rivers (the Connecticut, the Mill and the Nile) poses the same problems and opportunities.
Teaching Plan
Step 1.
Students will read "River Nile" segment from "Ancient Egypt" website.
Step 2.
Students will read about the Nile River flooding from the "Geography of Egypt" website
Step 3.
Students will read page 3 of the "Full and Graphic Account" of the Mill River flood and view the "Deerfield Meadows" print from the Digital Collection.
Step 4.
Students will write a 4-5 sentence reflection on the pros and cons of living near a major river.
Step 5.
Students will read the section on farming from the "Ancient Egypt" website making note of the tools that were used.
Step 6.
Students will draw,label and color tools from the "Egyptian Tools" website and then draw, label and color the "descendants" of those tools from the Digital Collection.
