Summary and Objective

Sixth grade classes will be embarking on a new set of state standards for history/social studies that revolve around the five themes of geography - Location, Place, Human Interaction and the Environment, Movement and Communication, and Regions. We will look at these in relation to what was being taught in World Geography in the 18th and 19th century in our region by viewing Geography books of that time.

Teaching Plan

Step 1. Students review the state standards for Grade 6 world geography.

Step 2. They review the learning standards for Africa, Western Asia (the Middle East), Central and Southern Asia, Southestern Asia and Oceania, Northern and Eastern Asia, Europe, and South America.

Step 3. Students go to the digital collection reserved here to review the information out of six books. Six groups can be assigned. Each group can be assigned a world region and review a book

Step 4. After reveiwing one book students will write down the comparisons and contrasts of what was taught then versus now.

Step 5. Students will rotate to a different book with group doing same topic.

Step 6. Groups will report their findings to the class.
