Pedestrians, automobiles, horse-drawn vehicles, and trolley tracks appear in this photograph of Main Street in Greenfield, Massachusetts, taken in about 1915. Trolley transporatation began in the area as a line between Greenfield, Turners Falls, and Lake Pleasant in 1895. It expanded eight years later and became the Connecticut Valley Street Railroad, connecting Greenfield with South Deerfield and Northampton. The trolley era ended in Greenfield in 1934, when the city turned to buses for public transportation.
