Edwin Moody and Betsy Holton were married in 1828 and came to live on this homestead plot. With an acre or two of land and a building which they were adding on to in time, they began a family. Edwin died, suddenly, in 1841, leaving Betsy to raise their nine children, including four-year-old Dwight L. Moody, future evangelist and founder of Northfield School for Girls and Mount Hermon School. Betsy did just that, earning respect and admiration for her own character and worth. She died in 1896, ten days shy of her ninety-second birthday.
