These two well-dressed Victorian boys have brought their well-made wagon and yoked sheep to the top of a pastoral landscape. By the end of the 19th century, the short growing season and difficult terrain of Ashfield, Massachusetts, made it difficult for farms to survive. Some turned their land into apple orchards or maple tree groves.
