The Temperance Movement began in the early 1800s and by 1833 there were 6,000 local societies in the United States. This is a notice of the meeting of the Greenfield, Massachusetts, Temperance Society. A minister was to give a talk on the importance of young men in the Temperance Movement. The Temperance Movement attracted a large number of women and children. The Greenfield Gazette and Franklin Herald was the newspaper in Greenfield, Massachusetts, from June 26, 1827 to June 27, 1837. It changed its name to the Gazette & Mercury.
