By the time of this photograph, Deerfield Academy's three-story-red-brick building had been painted white and the Academy itself had moved to the center of town in Deerfield, Massachusetts. This building, designed by architect Asher Benjamin in 1797, was soon to be converted to a history museum and renamed Memorial Hall. The occasion for the photograph was a reunion of former Deerfield Academy students.
